What should go in a calm down corner?

A few reliable options and nothing that demands anything. Somewhere to be low and enclosed, something to hold, something to reduce noise or light, and a way to ask for help without talking. Fewer choices work better than a shelf full of them.

How to use it

  1. Print at the largest size your printer allows and put it at their eye level.
  2. Fill in only the options you actually have to hand.
  3. Show them the corner when everyone is calm, never for the first time mid-meltdown.
  4. Never use it as a punishment or a time-out. It stops working the moment you do.
  5. Leaving the corner is always their call, not yours.

Things worth knowing

Where a paper sheet stops

A printed sheet is fixed. It can't change when the routine changes, it doesn't know the person using it, and it can't put anything in writing for a school or clinic.
